Leaflets and Flyers

The workhorse of event promotion

Cheap per copy, expensive to get wrong. A leaflet has to survive three months in a rack and still read clearly from two feet away.

  • 2,500 A5 from £120
  • Zero rated for VAT
  • Free UK mainland delivery

Leaflets go in tourist information centres, museums, club newsletters, other people's shows and members' pockets. Most of them are picked up months before your gate opens.

Formats and quantities

Prices exclude design and assume 170gsm silk, printed both sides in full colour, with UK mainland delivery included. Larger runs quoted on request.

Print more than you think

Look at that table again. Doubling from 2,500 to 5,000 adds £60, not £120. The expensive part is setting the job up, not running the paper through. Going to 10,000 barely doubles the price of 2,500.

Running out of leaflets in April is a far more expensive problem than a few hundred spare in October.

Paper, and why it changes your VAT

We recommend 170gsm silk for almost every event leaflet. It feels substantial, it survives a leaflet rack, and it stays under the 250gsm threshold where HMRC starts treating printed matter as standard rated rather than zero rated. A 300gsm flyer feels slightly nicer and costs your organisation 20% more in VAT that most clubs cannot reclaim.

Two others worth knowing. A leaflet with a tear off discount voucher loses zero rating. So does anything used to gain admission. We flag it on the quotation rather than letting you find out from the invoice.

We are not the cheapest, and we will not pretend to be

You can buy 5,000 A5 leaflets online for less than we charge. If price is the only thing that matters, do that. We would rather say so now than take the order and disappoint you.

What you get here instead is someone who knows what a living history event needs, who will tell you when your artwork will not print properly, who understands why the VAT treatment matters to a volunteer treasurer, and who has not yet missed an event date. Across a programme, leaflets, banners and signage bought together, that is worth more than the difference.

Artwork

Send us a print ready PDF and we check it free of charge. Send us a Word document, a logo and a rough idea and we will design it properly from £185.

Common questions

What organisers ask about leaflets

Why does the paper weight change the VAT?

HMRC treats printed matter of 250gsm or heavier as standard rated rather than zero rated. A 300gsm flyer feels marginally nicer and costs your organisation 20 per cent more in VAT that most clubs cannot reclaim. We recommend 170gsm silk for almost every event leaflet.

Can we put a discount voucher on it?

You can, but it loses the zero rating. Anything used to obtain a discount, or to gain admission, is standard rated. We will flag it on the quotation rather than letting you find out from the invoice.

How many should we print?

More than you think. Doubling from 2,500 to 5,000 adds about £60, because the expensive part is setting the job up rather than running the paper. Running out in April costs far more than a few hundred spare in October.
